Getting to Prague

There are a number of airlines which fly to Prague and most have very reasonable fares.

Here is a selection of those which fly direct to Prague from UK cities with links to their websites:-

  • British Airways Direct flights from London (Heathrow, Gatwick)
  • Czech Airlines Direct flights from London (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted), Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow
  • EasyJet Direct flights from London (Gatwick, Stansted), Bristol, East Midlands and Newcastle
  • bmibaby Direct flights from Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, East Midlands and Durham Tees Valley
  • Jet 2 Direct flights from Leeds/Bradford and Belfast

    • Once in Prague, there are 3 options for getting from the airport to the centre - public transport (bus/metro), the Čedaz shuttle bus or a taxi.

  • The cheapest option is to use public transport. Take bus no. 119 to Dejvická metro station (the end of green line A - see Metro map link below) and then a metro to your hotel. For this journey you will need to purchase a 'transfer ticket'. You can buy this either from the yellow ticket machine by the 119 bus stop which is located just across the road from the airport exit or from the kiosk inside the airport (useful if you don't have change). The ticket will cost you 12Kč (~27p) and is valid for 60 mins from validation (90 mins at weekends or 8am-5pm Mon-Fri). It can be used on any form of public transport (bus, metro, tram) and allows transfers e.g. bus to metro/metro to tram etc. Don't forget to validate your ticket in the machine when you get on the bus! However, on our last visit we discovered that they have introduced an extra 'luggage ticket' which you have to buy if you have more than a small bag. This costs an extra 6Kč.
  • If you have luggage, the easiest option may be to use the Čedaz shuttle/minibus service. They offer a shuttle service between the airport and the center of Prague every half an hour between 5.30am and 9.30pm. The minibuses leave from the front of the arrival terminal and take you to Namesti Republiky metro station. This costs 90Kč (~£2.20) per person. They also offer a private minibus service which will take you direct to your hotel. This costs 480Kč for a group of 1-4 persons to a single destination in the city center, 960Kč for a group of 5-8 persons to a single destination in the city center, or 960Kč for a group of 1-8 persons to a single destination outside the city center.
  • The most expensive option is to take a regular taxi. This will cost you between 800-1000Kč (£18-23), cash only. The price is meant to be fixed so don't pay more than this (they will probably do their best to overcharge!)

    If you are travelling straight to Hotel Zámek Štiřín, a taxi may be easiest. However, it is further out of Prague and so will be more expensive ~1400-1600Kč. Last time we went, we got public transport into town and then a taxi to Štiřín to save some money. However, given the costs for the Čedaz minibus above, that may well work out to be the cheapest and best option!
