Where to eat and drink in Prague
The Czech Republic is quite famous for its beer for 2 primary reasons:-
a) it produces some of the nicest beer in the world
b) it's very cheap!
Prague has become increasingly popular over the last few years and consequently prices have risen,
especially in the central touristy parts of the Old Town. However, there are still a few cheaper places
around and these are often nicer!
During our visits we've found a number of places to eat and drink which we have liked and gone back to.
These are listed below. No doubt you will find others of your own but it's worth giving some of these a try.
Eating
C’est La Vie (NB not a great website!) - Říční 1, Malá Strana.
Great food, good atmosphere and plenty of tables by the river in summer.
U Medvídků - Na Perštýně, Staré Město.
Good traditional Czech food, generous portions. Also lots of Budvar – both dark and light. Can also stay here in the pension above.
Novoměstský Pivovar - Vodičkova 20 (just off Wenceslas Square). A bit touristy but nice Czech food. A big place with lots of rooms to get lost in!
Konvikt - Bartolomejská 11, Staré Město (just round the corner from U Medvídků). Great place for drinking, including Dark Kozel (Ian's favourite beer). Also serves nice Czech food at very reasonable prices.
Pivnice u Pivrnce (NB Website in Czech only!) - Maislova 3, Staré Město. Serves traditional Czech food but the main highlight is the very cheap beer – was less than 20Kč for a half litre last time we were there
i.e. about 40p. Amusing cartoons on the walls too, but only if you understand Czech!
Pravda – Pařizská 17, Staré Město. Bit upmarket on a trendy street, but prices still reasonable. Describes its food as World/Fusion.

Drinking
Below is a list of some other drinking places, although most of the eating places above are also good for a
beer or two.
Klub Lávka – Novotného lávka 1, near Charles Bridge. It’s a disco/club by night but during the day it has an excellent riverside terrace where you can
drink beer while looking up at the Charles Bridge and castle. This is where Ian is pictured left. Food also
available.
Radegast Pub – Templova 2, near the Powder Gate.
U Fleků – Křemencova 11, Nové Město. Very touristy with oom-pah musicians wandering round but fun after a few beers somewhere else. Dark beer only, not the cheapest (i.e. more than £1 for less than a pint!) but worth trying. Does food too but we’ve never eaten here.
U Černého Vola – Loretanske náměstí, near the castle. Ideal for a beer stop after climbing up to the castle. A few tourists but also some
locals, especially at lunchtime.
